The miniskirt which is usually hyphenated as mini-skirt is a variant of traditional skirt, but is pretty short in length and hence is called Miniskirt. The length of miniskirt has always been well above the knees generally it is 8 inches. There are various variants also available for the miniskirts and has their names on the basis of their lengths, like micro miniskirts which has a length just beneath the buttocks, to lengths approximately up to the middle thigh. The miniskirt was the defining fashion representation of “Swinging London” during the 1960s. The first culture which has women wearing miniskirts was Duan Qun Miao of china which means ìShort skirt Miaoî in Chinese languages.

Miniskirt was further popularized by designers of 1965 who developed it and incorporated it into their mod look of 1965s. Introduction of miniskirts in the fashion trends of late 1960s earned a great respect for the designers and they became more popular due to their creativity with the miniskirt. The miniskirts got a more improved variant which was called micro miniskirt which was even shorter in length and was more revealing too. This resulted in the banning of micro miniskirts in some European countries as it was not considered as a part of decent dressing and invitation to rape. But still the miniskirts are still in the fashion and an important part of style in many parts of the world. The position of miniskirt as a trendy and stylish clothing has never been changed with the change in time and hence still holds a reputed positing in the fashion world.
